September Admissions
After submitting your application in January, you will receive further communication from us in March/April, at which time we will confirm whether your application has been successful.
Our admissions criteria is based on Worcestershire County Council’s admissions policy
Catchment area
It is the school allocated to take children for the geographical area within which your address falls. It is likely to be the school nearest to your home address but this will not always be the case. There is no guarantee you will be allocated a place at your catchment school. Copies of catchment area maps, if required are available from the LA, or can be viewed in schools. To find the catchment school for a postcode visit this web page Search for a School Catchment by Postcode.
Siblings
A brother or sister of pupils attending the school. In order to qualify for a place on the grounds of a sibling attending the school, the sibling must already be attending the school at the time of application and still be attending at the time of admission.
The sibling connection, as well as brother and sister will include half-siblings, adopted children, step-siblings or a child of the parent/carers partner. They must also be living at the same home address. Children who are brought together as a family by a civil partnership and who are living at the same address, are also considered to be siblings.
Children of Staff
Children of any member of staff employed at the mainstream school in either of the following circumstances:
- a) Where that member of staff has been employed for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission is made, or
- b) the member of staff is recruited to fill a post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage;
If you are unsuccessful you will have the option to enter a waiting list for the academic year. In year admissions are made following the admissions policy, and this does mean that your position on the waiting list may change.
Straight Line Distance
This is the straight-line distance for each property to the school postal code.
Multiple Births
In the event that one or more but not all children from that multiple birth can be allocated a place(s), all of the children from that multiple birth will be admitted even if this takes the school over PAN. In circumstances where no children from a multiple birth can be offered a place and parents/carers appeal against the decision, parents are advised to note, that all appeals are dealt with on their own merits and independent appeal panels are not obliged to allow all children from a multiple birth to be admitted, if one appeal is successful.

Extra Curricular Activities
During each session at Hagley Primary School Nursery, your child will have the opportunity to learn and play with their friends, with support and guidance from our exceptional Nursery team. The key focus of the Early Years’ Foundation Stage Curriculum is :-
- Communication and Language
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Arts and Design
In line with other Nursery / Pre-School settings, we kindly ask for your support with a voluntary contribution within each invoice. This contribution is to help support the cost of extracurricular activities, ensuring we can provide additional enriching experiences. These contributions help cover materials, equipment and other expenses that make these activities possible. While participation is not dependent on payment, your continued support allows us to continue offering a diverse range of opportunities for children to learn, grow, and enjoy new experiences in and outside of the classroom.
We offer an amazing range of additional opportunities, from music sessions, sports and games, to learning languages and enjoying additional arts and crafts.
Extracurricular activities in nurseries offer numerous benefits for children in the early years. Your voluntary contribution helps support these activities throughout the academic year, including:
- Establishing and reinforcing a child’s routine by providing structured time slots for various activities, promoting consistency and predictability in their daily schedule.
- Promoting holistic development by enhancing a child’s growth, including cognitive, physical, social, and emotional domains. They provide a well-rounded learning experience beyond academics, encouraging creativity, critical thinking, and social skills.
- Facilitating enhanced learning by engaging children in hands-on experiences that reinforce academic concepts in a practical way. These activities often make learning more enjoyable and memorable.
- Offering a living experience to the life cycle of animals, e.g. having chicks that hatch.
Extracurricular Activities may include:-
Forest School
Forest School offers a unique and enriching learning experience for children, with a strong focus on outdoor exploration and nature-based education. Some key benefits of Forest School are: physical development, self -confidence and a strong connection to nature.
Children will be able to deepen their understanding of the world around them and also build an awareness of the environment. Additional Forest School activities can improve critical thinking, focus and attention.
Dance and Drama
Dance encourages physical activity, helping children develop motor skills, co-ordination, and balance in a fun and expressive way. It fosters creativity and self-expression, allowing young children to explore their emotions and build confidence through movement and rhythm. Our dance club allows children to explore this activity further where a particular interest has been shown in this area. Drama classes in a nursery setting encourage children to explore their creativity, build self-confidence, and enhance their communication skills through imaginative play and storytelling.
Yoga
Yoga helps develop co-ordination and balance, as well as supporting young children with mindfulness and well-being.
Singing
Singing lessons enhance children’s language development by exposing them to rhythm, melody, and vocabulary in an engaging and memorable way.
Visitors and experts
Members of religious communities, musicians, experts in different fields of work and even our local library team may visit the school. We embrace inviting in visitors to ignite interests and promote ambitious horizons in our youngest children.
Science lessons
Incorporating science activities into a nursery curriculum sparks young children’s natural curiosity and fosters a love for exploration and discovery. It helps them develop critical thinking skills, promotes an early understanding of the world around them, and sets the stage for a lifelong interest in STEM fields.
Animal Experiences
Living eggs to hatch into chicks, caterpillars becoming butterflies, frogspawn turning into tadpoles are all brought into our classrooms.
Gardening
A gardening club in a nursery setting is a wonderful way to introduce young children to the joys of nature, plant growth, and sustainability. It can also offer children hands-on learning experiences that support various aspects of development.
Celebrations’ Calendar
At Hagley Primary School Nursery, we love making every day special! Our Celebration Calendar is packed with exciting events, religious and cultural festivals and fun theme days to engage little minds, spark creativity and create joyful memories.
Places of Interest within the local community or wider trips linking with the EYFS curriculum
Children visiting local places of interest or local history and architecture may result in additional costs for the setting. Additional employee ratios may be required for these visits and so a voluntary contribution may be requested for these activities. During an academic year, the nursery team may arrange to visit to a venue that is further away. Families will be informed of this event in advance of the day. An additional cost is requested for these events to support transport costs, additional staffing ratios and entrance to the venue.
Cookery
As a school Nursery setting, we always encourage healthy eating habits from an early age and provide an enjoyable and engaging way for children to explore diverse flavours and cultures.
Introducing additional cooking activities into our setting not only teaches children essential life skills but also promotes maths and science concepts through measuring and mixing ingredients. Cooking is covered in our lesson plans but this club would explore the concept of cooking a little further with demonstrations and participation.
Tennis
With soft equipment and fun games, your child will enjoy an exciting introduction to tennis in a safe and supportive environment building co-ordination, balance and social skills.
Rugby Tots
A Rugby Tots session is a fantastic way to introduce young children (typically aged 2–7) to rugby in a fun, safe, and engaging way. Rugby Tots sessions focus on developing essential physical, social, and cognitive skills while providing a strong foundation for the sport. These sessions are designed to be fun and playful, encouraging children to build confidence, teamwork, and co-ordination.
Language lessons
Language lessons provide young children with a strong foundation in communication skills, aiding in the development of vocabulary, grammar, and early literacy. These additional sessions not only prepare children for future academic success but also promote effective verbal expression and social interaction, fostering confidence in their ability to convey thoughts and ideas.
